The Top Causes of Roof Leaks – Essential Considerations to Remember

Mid Kansas Home Exteriors Roof Leaks

What do you really have to keep in mind when preventing roof leaks? While most leaks are caused by weather problems, this isn’t always the case. There are leaks that can also be caused by a variety of other issues, ranging from mold forming in the interior of your roof, to roof damage caused by a poorly installed set of shingles.

When the weather is the culprit, it’s not always easy to pinpoint what was it that caused the roof to leak. Sometimes hail can fall with such force that it will damage your roof to its core and cause cracks that allow rain to flow through to your attic. However, most leaks occur due to damaged or old flashing, which, when affected by the rain, will give way to allow water to seep through.

A poorly installed roof can also be prone to leaks. If the shingles are not properly set up, they can allow water to get through and damage your decking and underlayment over time, as well as get to your attic and walls. As time goes by, the damaged interior elements can cause the leak to become larger, and the only way to fix them would be to tear down a large part of your roof – or even to replace it in its entirety.  For some of the best exterior home projects see https://midkansasexteriors.com/.
